At our centre, first we request your basic details such as age, occupation, contact etc. This is followed by history taking (Complaints and Relevant Medical Information), assessment of vision, computerised refraction. Subsequently, the doctor will check your spectacle prescription, examination of the front part of the eye, intraocular pressure check and then assessment of the retina.\nAny abnormality detected may require further tests e.g. for glaucoma, retinal problems which will be explained to you.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

For checking the eye pressure or removal of foreign body, drops are put to numb the eye for a very short duration. These do not affect the sight.
In case the retina is to be examined, drops are put to dilate the pupil and examine the retina (back part of the eye) in detail. This causes more light to enter the eye and affects focus for a couple of hours.
To assess vision in children, the pupil is to be relaxed, and these drops cause blurred vision, especially for reading for one day.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

YES. If we are doing a detailed examination with dilating drops, the vision may be blurred for a few hours. Driving is not advisable at all. Hence an attendant accompanying you is always helpful.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

All diabetic patients should have detailed eye examination at least once a year even if there is no complaint. In case the doctor feels that more frequent check up is needed, you will be informed accordingly. Glaucoma is detected during routine eye check up. In early stages, there are usually no symptoms. Tests are carried out to detect the presence and severity. Any treatment such as drops, laser will be explained to you. Regular follow up, even if there are no complaints is very important, as the disease may progress, and require modification of treatment from time to time.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Anybody with a spectacle prescription should have an eye check up at least once a year, even if you are seeing clearly with the glasses.
